Testing task: Request information about a link

With JAWS in PC cursor active mode, describe how JAWS behaves when performing task "Starting at the 'W3C website' link, read information about the link."

Test instructions

  1. Restore default settings for JAWS. For help, read Configuring Screen Readers for Testing.
  2. Activate the "Open test page" button below, which opens the example to test in a new window and runs a script that sets focus on the 'W3C website' link.
  3. Press Alt+Delete to determine which cursor is active. If the virtual cursor is active, press Insert+z to disable the virtual cursor.
  4. Starting at the 'W3C website' link, read information about the link.
  5. Using the following commands, Starting at the 'W3C website' link, read information about the link.
    • Insert+Tab (virtual cursor active)
    • Insert+Up Arrow (virtual cursor active)
    • Insert+Tab (PC cursor active)
    • Insert+Up Arrow (PC cursor active)

Success Criteria

To pass this test, JAWS needs to meet all the following assertions when each specified command is executed:

  1. Role 'link' is conveyed
  2. Name 'W3C website' is conveyed
